I woke up early today to see the sunrise (and take some photos), and when I stepped outside, there was a beautiful crescent moon in the east. The new moon is on Sunday the 28th; that is when the moon passes between the Earth and the sun. Try and find the moon over the next few days and see how thin a crescent you can see before the moon disappears in the glare of the sun. Look in the morning this Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, and look in the evening next Monday or Tuesday. Another challenge: what is the earliest day next week that you can spot the moon in the evening twilight?
Update: It was cloudy on Tuesday August 30, so there was no chance to see the moon in Chicago.
